Sakshi Satpathy

The Ambassador Girl Scout who designed and executed Project GREET and this website
Picture
When Sakshi was very young, her favorite character of all times was Isabella, the energetic Fireside Girl from the American TV show Phineas and Ferb. Isabella leads her troop 46231, and is cheerful, quick-thinking, easy to get along with, optimistic, brave and independent! Isabella and her troop earn patches and sell cookies, after which they sew it onto their orange and brown Scout uniforms. As a small child, Sakshi aspired to be like Isabella, and her troop of Fireside Girls. Little did she know that the world was full of Isabellas (Girl Scouts!).

Sakshi has been actively participating and leading various Girl Scout activities for several years now. These activities include annual nut and cookie sales, making several crafts (such as bedside IQ lamps and knit Christmas tree ornaments) and selling them every year at Girl Scout Winterfests, completing Cadette journeys (such as the aMAZE and Breathe journey) and Senior journeys (such as the Sisterhood journey), babysitting, and teaching younger girls important skills ranging from leadership skills to lessons about friendship and women empowerment to eco-friendly habits that can save our planet.

Sakshi is an Ambassador Girl Scout whose Project GREET serves as her Girl Scout Gold Award project. She hopes that readers learn the nuances and red flags of human trafficking and child marriage, learn how to help their community in such matters, and are poised to battle a very present gender inequality in our world by giving momentum to various dedicated organizations, and/or starting their own movements.

Sakshi's numerous endeavors as a Girl Scout include:

"If you delegate tasks, you create followers. If you delegate authority, you create leaders"

In February 2016, Sakshi was elected to become one of the three Regional Delegates from Region XI, Santa Clara county for the 2016-2018 term for Girl Scouts of Northern California. In February 2018, she was re-elected as a Regional Delegate from Region IX, Santa Clara county for the 2018-2019 term. She collects her constituents' beliefs on programs through meetings, represents her Region's Girl Scouts' interests at the Annual Northern California meeting, and shares Council-level information on matters ranging from cookie sale goals to new Girl Scout programs to fund allocations. She continues to bring several issues faced by Girl Scouts in Region XI of Santa Clara county, while brainstorming solutions that will make their experiences better while maintaining Girl Scouts’ outreach.

"Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other."
                                                             - John F. Kennedy

Sakshi was appointed as 1 of the 2 Girl Board members for Girl Scouts of Northern California in April 2017 till April 2018, on a 22 adult Board, closely representing the voices of Northern California’s 47,000 Girl Scouts and 31,000 Volunteers. She actively participated in the Annual GS NorCal Board meeting, and a multitude of NorCal Board meetings throughout the year. Sakshi, along with the other Board Members, made informed and impactful decisions and voted on managerial decisions and strategized next course of actions to benefit the girl scout community--eg. evaluating which beloved camp properties to sell, changing GS cookie prices, altering member dues, launching online platforms to better equip members, unrolling new badges, and increasing funding for programs vocationally empowering girls. She supported the development of the council's financial resources by being a spokesperson on behalf of Girl Scouting and encouraged adults to make thoughtful financial contributions.

Sakshi is a part of the High Adventure Girl Scouts (HAGS), which is a Girl Scout group that teaches girls how to embrace their fears and live life to its fullest. The group goes on trips over weekends to explore new places and experience life-changing, thrilling activities. Some of the activities that Sakshi has participated in include ziplining, horseback riding, kayaking on the ocean, cave exploring, whale watching, whitewater rafting, elephant seal watching and i-flying! Though she has loved all these activities, Sakshi especially enjoys the thrill of riding rapids while doing whitewater rafting.

Service and Leadership Team

"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others"  - Gandhi

Sakshi is an active member of the Girl Scout Service and Leadership Team, which conceptualizes, organizes and executes several local community service projects including the annual “World Thinking Day” event at JLS Middle School, Palo Alto in February (25 Feb 2018, 26 Feb 2017, 21 Feb 2016). The Girl Scout Service And Leadership Team (GS SALT) is a team led by Cadette and Ambassador Girl Scouts (high schoolers) for teaching younger Girl Scouts the merit of service, traditional survival skills such as knot-tying, and bringing a more informed Girl Scout community together. Sakshi has served on this team since her freshman year, organizing several activities such as annual Girl Scout Thinking Days, periodic city-wide Service Days, and SALT recruiting events. Her favorite part of the year is watching younger girls present findings (and authentic food!) from their previous culture explorations at the annual Thinking Day.
