Today, we woke up at the latest time on the whole trip—at 8:30 am! Breakfast was at 9 am, and we ate at
polished Villa Tournon restaurant. The Girl Scout troop from Utah were leaving for the airport soon, so we said teary goodbyes to our new friends. At 10 am, the rest of our group started the 2.5 hour drive to Rio Sarapiqui, the river we would be white-water rafting in. Once we reached the rafting company, and they gave us nachos, salad, beans, salsa, peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches for lunch.
After, we drove to the starting point and went whitewater rafting on the river Rio Sarapiqui. Our raft was guided by our local guide Wilhelm, who pointed out all the wildlife! Since my friend and I sat in the front, we got splashed the most! The whitewater rafting trip was 2.5 hours long, and was the most fun activity (in my opinion) of the entire trip. Our raft rode many rapids, that left me soaking wet but a little happier than before.
We all got out of the dark green raft in the middle of the river to hike up a track and jump from a 9-foot cliff into the river! After swimming downstream with the current, the guides gave us fresh watermelon and pineapple, and we got back onto our rafts. Once we passed one set of rapids, the river would be tranquil before passing another raging rapid. During this time, we spotted various species of birds—herons, toucans, egrets—and spotted a zip line that passed over the river. After this fun, adventurous activity, we drove back to Hotel Villa Tournon, just in time for dinner. Dinner was a four course served meal, unlike our usual buffet meals. There, we took final photos, completed our online flight check-in, and returned to our rooms for the final night, to pack for the next day's flight, to leave for Costa Rica.
