Taraneh Roosta is a women's rights activist and community organizer. She is the founder and president of a nonprofit women's organization, Voices Of Women For Change. This organization was founded to empower women and girls to overcome gender-based barriers through consciousness-raising and advocacy. She organized The Silicon Valley CEDAW Task Force and is currently the Task Force Chair advocating to pass an ordinance adopting principles of CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women) in the city of San Jose. She also founded Kavosh cultural foundation and Kavosh Women's group in 1988 and has organized International Women's Day events and IWD celebrations, conferences, talks and panel discussions, film festivals, concerts, and other events about issues affecting women.
In 2007 she spearheaded and led a coalition of organizations such as Amnesty International, Office of Women's Policy, Santa Clara County Domestic Violence Consortium and other community organizations and organized an all- day conference shedding light on different faces of violence against women; this event received widespread coverage in the media. In 2008 she organized an all-day conference about CEDAW with the goal of educating the community about this international treaty and women's bill of rights.

- She received a joint award by Amnesty International , Office of Women's Policy and Santa Clara County Domestic Violence Consortium for her dedication and leadership on women's rights.
- In 2007 she received a Resolution by Honorable Assembly member Jim Beal for her dedication to women's issues and for bringing the community organizations and community leaders together and for drawing attention to gender inequalities and women's right issues.
- In 2008 she received a Resolution by Honorable Assembly member Joe Coto for organizing the IWD conference dedicated to CEDAW and women's rights and for honoring and celebrating the international women's day in the Santa Clara County.
